Azhagiya Manavala Jeeyar (1420-1468 AD) was a disciple of Pattar Piran Jeeyar, one of the Ashta Diggajas appointed by Manava Mamunigal. An inscription in the Yathokthakari Perumal temple records that a Mutt was established in Kanchi to accommodate Manavala Mamunigal during his second visit in 1420 AD, when he came to thoroughly study the Sri Bhashyam. Afterward, this Mutt was likely used by Azhagiya Manavala Jeeyar to oversee the affairs of the Varadaraja Perumal temple, including the proper conduct of worship and festivals. It is believed that Jeeyar held the position of Koil-Kelvi in the Varadaraja Perumal temple during the latter half of the 15th century. The Mutt is an impressive structure with a spacious pillared Thinnai at its front.
