Location
It is located in the center of Eastern Raja Veedhi, between Pookkadai Chatram and the bus stand.
Architecture
This west-facing temple features a Sanctum Sanctorum and an Artha Mandapam. The Mandapam is supported by four pillars: the two front pillars are adorned with lion figures, while the two rear pillars are plain. The entire structure is constructed from sandstone.
Sculpture
Inside the Artha Mandapam, the north wall features the Ravana Anugraha Murthi figure, while the south wall displays intricate Siva Thandava sculptures. On the exterior, the north wall showcases sculptures of Siva Urthva Thandava, Durga, Subrahmanyar, Hariharan, Suryan, Chandran, and Dwarabalakar. The southern wall is adorned with figures of Andakasuravada Murthi, Yoga Dakshinamurthi, Shiva in a Yogasana posture, Shiva seated with Uma Devi, Uma Maheswarar, and Ganapathy, all beautifully carved.
Inscription
The Pallava queen not only appointed administrative officials but also provided the services of 18 classical dancers for regular performances before the deity. The names of these dancers and the details of their appointments are recorded in the inscriptions within the temple. This evidence highlights Kanchipuram as a significant center for dance and music well before Tanjore, earning it the distinction of being the first Music Academy of South India.
